Vidhu Singh

Vidhu Singh (Khulsoom, the mother), a Bay Area theater director and scholar, earned her doctorate in Asian Theater from the University of Hawaii at Manoa which steeped her in a rich variety of world theater traditions. She traveled to far-flung parts of the Indian subcontinent delving into folk and classical forms, martial arts and regional experimental theater. The result was an epic dissertation that focused on a vibrant network of cutting-edge companies that blended indigenous and western theater styles. The former Managing Director of the Asian American Theater Company, Singh currently teaches multicultural drama at Foothill College and directs provocative plays that bridge diverse styles, themes and audiences. Most recently, Vidhu directed Rebel Courtesan: Begum Sumroo at Project Artaud Theater, a cross-cultural epic about a courtesan's rise to fame and glory in British India. As a recovering academic and life-time theater addict, Vidhu is thrilled to return to the stage as Khulsoon in The Domestic Crusaders.
